on the edge

Some weekends
we are barely dressed
by noon
Some weekends
our big outing
is to the grocery store
and the backyard
This past weekend
though
we found
early
simple
inexpensive
fun filled
family stuff
to do.

Saturday,
we were in
the car by 9am
20 min drive
and some snacks
we found a park

a shady forest walk
on an extremely hot day
seemed perfect
but for whatever reason
Easton wanted
no part of that plan
so on the edge
of the forest
that is
I stayed, while
Daddy and Azalea
found pine cones

a stroll along
a wire barricade
provided entertainment
as well as
some swinging
on the actual
playground
then we found
beach volley ball courts

aka. really big
sandbox
that again
we only stayed
on the edge of

not sure if
why
this is a theme
but I could say
we are definitely
on the edge
of a lot of things

another case in point
eventually we all
were hot enough
for a cool down
and stumbled into
the splash pad

Easton enjoyed himself
running along
the edges
of the pad
of the water
he was curious
slightly afraid
but willing
as always

Sister girl
stayed true to form
with all things new
and didn't want
any part of it
not only stayed
on the edge
but preferably
away from it all
several attempts
were made
in hand
in arms
to get in water
the only thing
she enjoyed
was pressing a button
that beeped
placed perfectly
away from it all
and seemingly implied
complete control

Note to self
next time
don't bother with
the swim gear
a simple change
of clothes
if at all
is sufficient
we just aren't
there yet
once again
on the edge

Sunday,
again in the car
by 9am
another quick side note
any morning activity
is always good
wears them out
eat a good lunch
home by noon-ish
down for a really
good nap
well maybe
Easton is kinda
on the edge
of ditching naps

So off to the
local county
annual fair
we were there
so early that
they weren't even
charging admission, yet
no kidding
we were the second car
in the parking lot

the livestock barns
were awesome
all the animals
were just getting
their morning started
this picture
cracks me up
because I think
Easton is just playing
with his overalls
but it looks like
he is covering his nose
maybe he was
the piggies
were stinky

but this
little piggy
was cute

We also got
to see the goats
get their milk
for breakfast
but I just noticed
this is a picture
of sheep

and for the sake
of sparing time
and energy in posting
every animal picture
we also saw
and heard
and smelled
cows
lamas
chickens
roosters
bunnies
guinea pigs
it felt like more
maybe I am
forgetting some
but it was
barn animals 101
for sure

Then it was time
to let our little
animals out
of the stroller
in true fair fashion
we found
a billion tractors
on display
perfect playground

didn't take long
for him
and his imagination
to warm up

surprisingly she
wasn't afraid
although from
the size of it
it looks like
she should be

she found the horn
all on her own
luckily it didn't beep
but some certainly did

He was in heaven

She was just
plain cute

and here comes
the beginning
of falling off
the edge

don't worry
not literally
but he is learning
not to his liking
that all things
come to an end
please note
the death stare
that has overtaken
my innocent child
he is saying
without words
do not remove me
from this tractor
or else

or else
I will go over
the edge
ahhh yes
we are on the edge
of the terrible two's
slide show
ends here
fair pretty much
ends here
after an extended stay
on the tractors
thinking ohhh
he will just get bored
won't he
nope
no snack
no smiles
no rides
no happy fair food
just fair food
to go
maybe next year
this year
we are
on the edge

PS. it was still
a great weekend
you live and
you learn
on the edge.

  1. I love love LOVE that death stare! It is so very cute watching it through pictures (although I imagine it to be maddening!) Love the giraffe patch! And really, I could little miss get any cuter?

  2. Her control of the splash pad button is hilarious!! Loving the death stare. 2 brings some wonderful things with it to balance out the terrible part! But, it is pretty interesting! Such a fun weekend!

  3. His glare is awesome. They both can convey so much with just a look. It seems like you all had a great time. I think life on the the edge agrees with you!

  5. The evil glare is awesome. I need to catch Austin doing something similar. He throws in a point and a growl which is fairly hysterical. But I try not to smile.

Also the pigtails are soooo adorable. She is such a little doll. On the edge is better than not even attempting it.
